Parr was also tasked with providing parts to
support to the fledgling Carrera Cup, as it ran
alongside the Porsche Club championship in 2001
and ’02, and when the one-make competition
became ‘stand alone’ in ’03, the company took on
its current role.
In 2007, for the first time, Parr will not only
provide technical advice and spares support to
all competitors in the Porsche headline
championship, but will also rebuild and reseal
engines and gearboxes. It will also continue to
prepare and run the Porsche VIP car that appears
at all Carrera Cup rounds with a guest driver,
often a hot-shoe out to prove his credentials
against the regular competitors.
Paul Robe is upbeat about the Cup’s future.
Some 20–23 cars are expected to come to the
grids this year, the newly-delivered cars joined by
last year’s 997 intake, which will require no
modifications for the season ahead. The series is
Porsche’s major marketing tool worldwide, and
the GT3 Cup specification is such that owners
can use their cars in other races, if they wish.
‘The future looks good for Carrera Cup,’ he says.
Parr continues to prepare cars for drivers in
other UK disciplines, such as Porsche Club,
Britcar and Intermarque, but there’s no firm plan
to venture further afield at the moment. Would
he go back to Le Mans? Yes, if the opportunity
arises, says Paul Robe. How about running an RS
Spyder? He smiles and fumbles a bit. Obviously,
that’s not the first time that particular question
has been asked. ‘We’ve done the sums,’ he says.
Meanwhile, Parr continues to look after road
cars of all ages (an early 911, a 964 and a brace
of 968s were in evidence, alongside more
modern machinery the day we called), and the
liaison with Cargraphic, plus other longer-term
but not yet revealed plans, means that the
company will continue to grow.
‘We hope to remain at the forefront of Porsche
specialists in the country, and continue our
association with Porsche as long as Carrera Cup
exists,’ says Paul Robe.
Best in the world? Parr has some pretty
persuasive facts to back up that claim in the
advertisement. You decide.
