Eight enter 2012 Supercup race at British grand prixEight drivers from the Porsche Carrera Cup GB will step up to the Porsche Mobil1 Supercup race at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone (7/8 July), including 2012 Carrera Cup Scholarship driver Daniel Lloyd in an additional element to his Scholarship award.
A record number of Carrera Cup GB racers will pack out the Supercup grid on the biggest day of the season in British motor racing as Lloyd is joined on the grid by Michael Meadows, Sam Tordoff, Richard Plant, Rory Butcher, Glynn Geddie, Ahmad Al Harthy and Michael Leonard. All of them will race on the morning of the British Grand Prix before returning to their Carrera Cup programmes at Snetterton in August.
For Lloyd, Plant and Butcher it will be a first experience of racing in the Supercup and Butcher will head to Silverstone on the back of a superb weekend at Croft (23/24 June) when he won both races. Lloyd, meanwhile, is thrilled that this valuable package has been added to the £80,000 budget contribution he won in the 2012 Scholarship.
“It’s going to be the biggest race weekend of my life so far,” said Lloyd. “It should be extremely exciting going up against the best drivers in the Supercup. Some of those guys have been in these cars for years and I’ve done five race weekends. No one expects too much in terms of results so we’ve kind of got nothing to lose, but a lot to gain in terms of experience. Hopefully we’ll learn a lot over the weekend and make the most out of an amazing opportunity.”
