Ben Barker put his Parr Motorsport Porsche on the second row of the grid for both of tomorrow’s races at Brands Hatch. The youngster was initially leading the way during the first half of the session and had pitted before a red flag came out after team-mate Richard Denny spun into the gravel at Westfield with a mechanical fault. Richard’s car as recovered to the pits but was no longer in fit condition to continue.

“That wasn’t the qualifying I was hoping for,” said Richard. “I was getting in to things and gradually building speed. The track felt good, the car felt good, I was just working my way up to increasingly faster laps so I was probably only out there for five to six laps. Through the fast right-hander at Westfield all of a sudden it just let go and I spun off into the gravel. I didn’t know what happened but I got out of the car in a hurry because it’s not a place you want to be stuck. As I got out I saw half the wheel and the tyre stuck in the gravel about 20 metres behind the car. As I got behind the barrier the officials handed me the other half.

“We got the car back but what transcribed was the drive shaft broke which cause the wheel to part company with the motor car and as it was all going wrong it actually sheared the wheel in two. It could have happened in far worst places but we live to fight another day. The guys are just rebuilding the car now so it will be fixed for the races tomorrow but a bit of a disconcerting feeling. Thankfully we’ll be out on track tomorrow.”

After the session restarted and the team waited for a window in the traffic to release Ben before Meyrick caused another red flag and halted the session for a second time. This allowed Ben to get to the front of the queue in the pitlane but the competition has gone out on new tyres and already got them up to temperature for the restart.  The result was ben will start fourth in the first race and third for race two. “I struggled a bit on the second set of tyres but it was really close out there,” Said Ben “ I’ve got to try and get on it straight away in the races and see what we can salvage.” I’m a bit disappointed with that,” added tem boos Paul Robe. “We’re in a good position on the second row of the grid with Ben though and we can consolidate our position in the championship.”
