BB podium2012 multiple Porsche Carrera Cup GB race winner Ben Barker will return to the series as will the Porsche VIP car. The last time Porsche entered a VIP car was in 2009 where the McLaren Autosport young drivers each enjoyed a race. The car was run by Parr Motorsport then so it only seems right that Parr should run it on it’s return to the championship this weekend.

Since Ben finished as runner up to Michael Meadows in 2012 he graduated to the Porsche Supercup for 2013 and had a stellar year, finishing in the points in every race. After nine races that visited Monaco, Silverstone and Monza before culminating in a double header at Abu Dhabi; Ben finished tenth in the championship, no mean feat for a rookie against the best Porsche drivers in Europe.

The new 991 debuted in the Supercup last year so Ben will be putting his experience to good use although he has not actually driven a car since the last lap of Abu Dhabi last November.

“I’m grateful to Porsche and to Parr Motorsport for making this happen,” said Ben. “The Carrera Cup GB is a very good championship so I’m excited to be back part of it. It should be a good weekend and a good warm up for me as I’ll be testing the Supercup car in Barcelona straight after on Monday and Tuesday.”

“We’re proud to have worked with Porsche before so it is great that they gave us the opportunity again.” Said Parr Motorsport team boss Paul Robe. “ It’s also good that they have allowed us to run a driver like Ben who has progressed through the Carrera Cup. He follows in the footsteps of Richard Westbrook and Damien Faulkner in stepping up to Supercup after winning in the Carrera Cup. We worked with Ben in the Supercup last year so it’s great to have him back with us and we’re looking forward to a good weekend.”

“I’m not going to hold back,” said Ben. “I’m sure Michael is ready for the fight but I’ll up my game and we’ll see what happens on the track.”
