Ben Barker on the Rockingham podiumParr Motorsport’s Ben Barker led a lights to flag race to win round fifteen of the Porsche Carrera Cup at Rockingham today.  He got a good start to fend off a strong challenge from second placed Jonas Gelzinis but closed the Lithuanian driver off at the hairpin and from them on was able to control the race, setting a new lap record in the process.

The Rockingham track surface is very abrasive compared to some other circuits and so tyre management is a big part of the racing drives strategy. “Our tyres seemed to hold on slightly better than Gelzinis behind so I was able to control the race," said Ben. Control it he did and after nineteen laps he crossed the line to seal victory number three.

“Fantastic result,” said Paul Robe. ”There was a bit of heart stopping moment when we were a little slow off the line but after that Ben did what he had to do. He worked hard for the first couple of laps and put a cushion and drove really well. I couldn’t be happier.”

“Three wins on the trot is great” said a happy Ben. “It’s what we needed and to carry the momentum is fantastic and that’s what we need for the championship. I’m comfortable now to push and get results in the second half of the season. We’ll keep cool and try it again in race two.”
