Ben Barker at Monaco

Parr Motorsport supported driver Ben Barker finished ninth in this weekend’s Mobil 1 Porsche Supercup race at Monaco. Ben set consistently fast times throughout the weekend, never leaving the top ten in what is widely acknowledged as the most competitive Porsche series in the world.

The cars glistened in the morning sun as they lined up on the grid for the 9:45am local time start. The majesty and glamour of competing on Grand Prix weekend can never be matched or done justice in words. As the engine notes rose and the sound of twenty-six 460 brake horsepower 991 cars bounced off the surrounding buildings the cars were off. Ben held his position off the line and for the opening laps looked like he had the measure of Christian Engelhart in front.

On lap ten he received a healthy hit from ninth placed Niki Thiim into the Lowes Hairpin. The bump caused the car to be destabilised and allowed the Danish drive to get past. Ben’s pace was still very good though and held position to finish ninth at the flag. Despite his clear speed the confines of the narrow street circuit did not allow Ben to show his full potential.

“I had good pace for 7th and above but got hit by Niki pretty hard.” Siad Ben. “Not so fair but happy on my second round. It's a shame I could not get passed as I was the second quickest car on track!”
