2016 Carrera Cup Scholar AssessmentThe final stage of the 2016/17 Porsche Carrera Cup GB Scholarship selection process took place at Silverstone on Wednesday with the four finalists being put through their paces at a challenging assessment day. The supremely talented and ambitious quartet of Sam Brabham (Banbury), Ashley Crossey (Bristol), Charlie Eastwood (Belfast) and Hannah Pym (Staines-upon-Thames) underwent a series of on and off track assessments to help determine the winner of the highly-prized programme.

In addition to driving the Porsche 911 (Type 991) GT3 Cup Car around the renowned Silverstone National track, the four took on a number of high-intensity fitness evaluation tests under the watchful eye of Porsche Human Performance experts and participated in world-class media workshops at the Porsche Experience Centre. The finalists were assessed across all these aspects with the goal of finding the perfect ambassador for the UK’s fastest one-make series.

Current Porsche Carrera Cup GB Scholar Josh Webster and 2015 Rookie Champion Tom Sharp were on hand to offer the finalists advice, having both previously gone through the process themselves. 21-year-old Webster has excelled during his Scholarship, breaking multiple records on his way to becoming the youngest ever winner of the Championship in 2014 and finishing third in this year’s standings.

The finalists now have an anxious wait until the Porsche Carrera Cup GB end-of-season awards on 7 November when the lucky winner will be announced. The prize includes £80,000 per year towards their 2016 and 2017 Porsche Carrera Cup GB budgets, personal training regimes with the Porsche Human Performance Centre at Silverstone, world-class media training and incredible exposure to the international Porsche Motorsport family.

Porsche UK Motorsport Manager James MacNaughton said: “It was fantastic to see the four talented Scholarship finalists perform and watch them develop throughout the various stages of the day. We were able to get a complete picture of what they are like in and out of the car and were exceptionally impressed by the level of talent on display and their passion for the opportunity to be part of the Porsche brand.

“It was great that they all enjoyed the day and learnt a great deal. They have certainly left us with a difficult decision ahead of our end-of-season awards as there is no doubt that we are assessing four highly determined and capable drivers.”
