Kieran GallagherGlasgow based Kieran Gallagher will make his Porsche Carrera Cup GB debut this weekend with the Parr Motorsport team. The 24 year old, who works as a Hydrographics Surveyor, seized the opportunity after watching the new 991 cars in Abu Dhabi last year.

“I was over in Abu Dhabi to watch the Formula One last year and I saw the Supercup cars up close.” Said Kieran. “I’d seen them at Silverstone as well and it interested me more then the F1. So when I saw the 991 in the flesh at this year’s Autosport Show I fell in love with it.”

The younger will make his first appearance in the championship when the TOCA package arrives in Kent for rounds one and two on the Brands Hatch Indy circuit. He started racing at Oulton Park in 2012 in the Legends series before driving a Scirocco in the 2013 VW Cup. He took his series bow at the historic Spa circuit in Belgium but when his phone rang offering him a driver at his home circuit of Knockhill in the BTCC the only answer was yes. He acquitted himself well netting race finishes in the Vauxhall Insignia despite limited testing mileage.

Kieran has committed to another season of the VW Cup but thanks to support from sponsors Right Choice Insurance Brokers, EcoTune and Clydeside Surveys Limited he will be able to dovetail that with competing in the Porsche Carrera Cup.

The deal came together very quickly despite its late nature and the team’s experience of running the 991 in the Supercup last year helped speed the process. “The team have the experience with the car and know what they are doing,” said Kieran. “I just was to get out there and do well. This has potential and I’d be very happy to race with Parr Motorsport. I’d love to win the Carrera Cup and then move up through the Porsche ranks to Supercup and Le Mans beyond that.”

“It’s great that we’ve got another young driver on board”, said team boss Paul Robe. “We’re keen to work with Kieran and to help him learn his craft in a Porsche.

The first two races of the nineteen-race calendar will take place at Brands Hatch in Kent on Sunday 30th March.
