Parr Motorsport completed a successful day of testing today at Doninton park ahead of the weekend’s rounds of the Porsche Carrera Cup. Peter Kyle-Henney was again out hoping for more ProAm2 silverware after making his series debut at Brands Hatch last month. Also joining him in the team was former Ginetta race winner and Porsche Guest car driver Max Coates.

The morning session got underway in warm, sunny conditions. Peter struggled initially to find a good balance to the car but still managed to complete 29 laps of the Derbyshire track. “It was a bit snappy and made me feel nervous in the way it was responding,” said Peter. The second session went much better however for the Hampshire-based driver. “This afternoon it was good after the team made some changes. We were just improving all the time, in fact on the last lap we dropped into the 1:09s so with more laps we would have dropped it down a bit more.”

Max was also able to complete a number of trouble laps in both sessions gaining good experience of his new charge. “I’m really happy with how it has gone” said a smiling Max. “There is a lot to learn, the engines at the other end and the seat is on the left hand-side, which is something I’m not used to but I think we progressed well. I’m still getting used to running on new tyres but to finish the day seven-tenths off someone who has won the championship on a number of occasions with a lot more experience than me is good. Our race pace is good so we’re in good shape for the weekend.”

“I was very pleased with today,” added team boss Paul Robe. “Max had never driven the car before so it was great to see him develop the technique as the Porsche takes a bit of getting used to but he’s coming along very well. There’s plenty to learn but moving along nicely for qualifying. Peter had a bit of a tortuous first session this morning but we made some good inroads into where we’re going. There is still some work to do but we’re moving in the right direction.”

Qualifying starts at 11:15 on Saturday with race one following at 15:45.
