Coates gets P4 in Donington QualifyingQualifying for rounds three and four got underway in cool but dry conditions at Donington Park today. Guest driver Max Coates was clearly fired up for his first qualifying session in the Carrera Cup. Team-mate Peter Kyle-Henney was also feeling more positive after a mixed result in Thursday’s practice sessions.

“I was lacking a bit of confidence after practice on Thursday,” said Peter. “Coming into today the car was really nice to drive, well balanced and it was just a case of putting the best time in the window when the new tyres come in.” He declared himself happy after his two fastest times put him second in the ProAm2 class and tenth on the grid overall.

Max was equally happy with his performance despite locking a brake on his fastest lap on his second set of tyres. “The first run went really well, said Max. “I got a 1:07.3, which I was really pleased with as I’ve gained half a second on yesterday. I braked a little bit too late into the final chicane which messed up the best lap. It was a shame as there is time in me and in the car and I think I could have been second. I’m looking forward to getting into the race and hopefully getting a podium.”

With two happy drivers team boss Paul Robe could justifiably feel proud of the team’s qualifying performance. “It was a good session and I’m really pleased with both cars. Max managed to pull out a good lap and Peter exceeded everything, he was really down last night wondering how he was going to find a second but he managed to find more. To be second in class and tenth overall is a great position.”

Henney in Donington QualifyingRace one starts at 5pm this afternoon and whilst heavy clouds have, at times looked threatening, the weather has held and brightened up. All bodes well for a clean start to round three.
