Mark Cole takes second place at KnockhillMark Cole claimed second place in ProAm1 for his second visit to the podium in 2015 with Dino Zamparelli and Paul Rees scoring solid points.

The Parr Motorsport team enjoyed a strong performance in the opening race of the Knockhill weekend as the cars went out onto a damp track after it rained overnight. All the cars started the race on slick tyres and did very well to avoid contact in the opening laps on the greasy surface.

Dino and Paul made good starts and were running ninth and tenth in the opening laps before both managed to overtake Ignas Gelzinis and move up. They gained another place when leader Josh Webster spun at the chicane and retired from the race. The duo ran nose to tail for the remainder of the race crossing the line in seventh and eighth separated by under two tenths of a second.

“We were so strong,” said Paul Rees. “The car felt really good and we definitely had the pace to be in the top three. It was a bit touch and go in the early laps because it was wet and we were on slicks but as the race progressed we just got quicker and quicker.”

It was damp so it made for an interesting start,” commented Dino. “We made a few positions up and stayed out of trouble and then started suffering a bit with the balance so from about lap six I started to defend a little bit and then had to defend more and more. I had an interesting battle with Paul and we struggled for pace a little bit but we finished seventh overall and it was a good recovery from eleventh. We’ll work on the balance of the car for race two and hopefully we can get another good start.”

Mark Cole had a very competitive race having started fourteenth. He gained three places in the opening laps to run in eleventh behind his two team-mates. By mid race he was fighting with Ignas Gelzinis and didn’t take very long to dispatch his Lithuanian rival to take second in ProAm1. By that time leader Jordan Witt was too far down the road but Mark crossed the line to take his best finish of the year and second place in class.

“It was the kind of conditions that suit me,” said mark. “I enjoyed it but it was as hectic as hell. We had a lot of traffic and it was very hard to pass off line. I’m very pleased.”

“It was a great entertaining race,” added team boss Paul Robe. “It was difficult having to set the car for the very slippery conditions at the beginning of the race. We know that things were going to change quite dramatically throughout the race but initially is always when you can gain some places so the car can be set to be strong at the beginning.”

“It was a great result for Mark and his best of the season. He set good lap times and you could see he was strong in the car and it’s done a great deal of good for him as it gives him confidence and moves him forward.”

“Paul and Dino had a great scrap with Dino making some good places up early in the race and managed to put in a strong performance. Paul had a great race too. The car was quick and strong and as team mates they battled to the end. For us it was good entertainment, for them it is sometimes not always what they want.”

Race two will be broadcast live on ITV4 at 3pm.
